ΨΗΦΙΑΚΟ ΜΟΥΣΕΙΟ ΒΛΑΧΟΚΕΡΑΣΙΑΣ

  1. Restructuring. Following a decision by the VDM Committee, we implemented additional restructuring of VDM, with the purpose of improving the homogeneity of content. The basic restructuring involved the splitting of the menu category, “History-Traditions” in two independent menu-categories, “History” and “Traditions”. Each one of the menu-categories includes five subcategories (flipping books). Furthermore, we created two new electronic books (flipping books), the “Family Trees of Vlahokerasiotes” and “Vlahokerasiotes in the Armed Forces”. The first one was incorporated in the menu-category, “History” and the second, in the menu-category, “Beyond Vlahokerasia”.  It is necessary to note that the first book (“Family Trees…”) is quite brief (5 pp.) and consists of new materials, while the second (“Vlahokerasiotes in the Armed Forces”) contains more pages, but consists of materials that were already published in other existent flipping books. Finally, we performed a re-ordering of the pages in the electronic book, “Sciences, Letters and the Arts”, putting the scientists, the authors, the artists and the journalists in alphabetical order in accordance with the Greek alphabet.
  2. New Materials in the VDΜ. Aside from the new materials posted in the two new electronic books, members of the Committee and compatriots from Greece and abroad submitted valuable materials that we incorporated in various electronic (flipping) books, depending upon the content. We would like to express our gratitude to Nikos K. Baziotis, Angeliki Katsafanas, Vasilis D. Patsilivas, Christos Sotos, Eleni Petropoulos-Schwaigert, Georgia Franciscus, Constantina Kontogiannis, Dena Haritos-Tsamitis and Constantinos Kopitopoulos, for their contribution to the renewal and enrichment of the “Vlahokerasia Digital Museum”. A special thanks to Constantinos Kopitopoulos, son of Efstathios Kopitopoulos (a founding member of the “Patriotic Association of the Athens and Piraeus Vlahokerasiotes”) for the diversity, the historical and folklore importance of archival materials which he contributed to VDM and which were diffused in many of the existent flipping books, depending upon content. In order to manage the diversity of materials that Kopitopoulos submitted, to reduce the costs for the Committee and to make it more friendly to the visitor, the larger part of his photographic materials was allocated into three relatively homogeneous categories (“military service”, “social circles” and the “Vlahokerasiotes Association”); these in turn became albums that were hyperlinked with pages (photos) of three flipping books. The Table below presents the sources of the materials, a brief description of the new materials, the general menu-category in which the new materials are incorporated, the subcategory (flipping book) that contains it, and finally the page or pages where the visitor will find the new materials. The new materials cover the period September 2018 – April 2019 and consist of 67 new pages. Most of these pages are accompanied by hyperlinks (blue color) whose activation will lead the visitor of VDM to the revelation of significant photographic, historical and folklore materials (historical documents of Vlahokerasiotes in Greece and abroad, original handwritten documents) which document and inform the pathways, the culture and the identity of Vlahokerasiotes at home and abroad.  To get the most out of their trip in VDM, we strongly encourage our visitors to activate the links to the pages of the flipping books. Keep in mind that the visitors can use the available tools to magnify all the texts and documents to render them more readable for all the visitors.

A touch screen for the projection of Vlahokerasia Digital Museum in the village community. If one runs back to the general introduction for V.D.M. (Home Page, 2nd paragraph from the end), he/she will ascertain that the creation and posting of the V.D.M on the internet constituted the first stage of the project. During the second phase, the VDM Committee had planned the projection of VDM in the village community, where it would be more accessible to the residents. Its plans also included the exhibition of selected folklore relics, such as plows, kegs, sifters, traditional dress etc.). Thus, the second phase was fulfilled in part with the installation of the touch screen in the community on the 19th of April 2019, about one week before Greek Easter (See photograph). The touch screen was a donation by the “Vlahokerasiotes Association of Attica – Prophet Elias” to the community of Vlahokerasia [See N.A.B., home page of VDM], to be used mainly for the projection of VDM  but also for educational purposes by organizations and public services of the  Local Community of Vlahokerasia and the Skiritida Municipal Area (e..g. Vlahokerasia Elementary School, Regional Doctor’s Office, the “Vlahokerasiotes Youth Association”, other associations in the Skiritida Area, etc. ).

The second phase will be accomplished when the touch screen is flanked by a selection of actual folklore relics, an aim not infeasible, as I ascertained recently. During an unplanned meeting of the undersigned with Mrs. Nicky Zeppos in the Skiritida Municipal Area conference room (See photo), Mrs. Zeppos offered to be the first to donate farm implements (e.g. plow) and traditional costumes for the exhibition in a real museum.  Undoubtedly, the touching offer of Mrs. Zeppos is in accord with the aims of the VDM Committee. However, its materialization implies costs (e.g. maintenance, security, etc.) and assumes the cooperation between Associations (e.g. “Vlahokerasia Youth Association” and “Vlahokerasiotes Association of Attica”) as well as with the local and municipal authorities.   We invite the younger generation compatriots, at home and abroad, to take up the challenge.

Mrs. Nicky Zeppos, in front of the touch screen of the Skiritida Municipal Area touches with her finger the arrow in order to turn the page of the flipping book, “Churches, Country Churches and Fairs” – one of the 32 electronic books of the ”Vlahokerasia Digital Museum”, Vlahokerasia, Municipality of Tripolis, 3/7/2019 (Source: N. P. Petropoulos)

Closing this overview, on the activities pertaining to V. D. M. for the period September 2018 – April 2019, I would like to mention that the above would not have materialized if it were not for the cooperation of:  those  who contributed valuable materials and  whom we have already mentioned in the text;    Stefanos Sotos, Costas Baziotis, George K. Mitropoulos, Lefteris Sourlas, Nasia Michalopoulos, Alexandra Katsafanas, and Constanina Kontogiannis who helped in the process of photo identification;  Dimitra Chronis, Vaso Georgaklis, George Giannakas, Constantinos Brusalis, Ilias Petropoulos and Spyros Kopitas  who helped in the installation of the touch screen in the community; and, finally, Anna Martinou who was very prompt in the editing of the texts. A very warm thanks to all these compatriots. We are hopeful that our compatriots and their friends will continue- with the same zeal – to cooperate and to support V. D. M., whether this concerns further enrichment with new materials, documentation, or even subsidization.
